Duty to Defend

           Insurer which indemnified police officer for compensatory, but not punitive damages, had to provide officer with independent legal representation when a civil rights lawsuit sought punitive damages from him, because off a conflict of interest which might lead them to less vigorously defend him against the punitive damages claim Illinois Municipal Risk Mgt Assoc v. Seibert, 585 N.E.2d 1130 (Ill App. 1992).
     City had duty to provide legal defense for former deputy police chief sued for alleged civil rights claims Hassan v. Fraccola, 851 F.2d 602 (2nd Cir. 1988).
